I love the following quote: “I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” J.R.R. Tolkien – The Fellowship of The Ring
Part of managing our lives well is coming to the realization that many things happen which are out of our control. It seems to be human nature, though, to ask “Why did this happen to me?” (We can waste a lot of time and energy trying to figure out the whys.) Worrying and fretting before or after an event does little to help us manage the outcomes of the event.
And while we may not have control over many things that happen to us, this doesn’t mean we can’t plan for the uncontrollable events. Some of our planning may be as basic as writing down what steps we will follow when “disaster” strikes.
What strategies have you used to get through the uncontrollable times in your life?
